The Oneirix Labs Associate ProgramFrequently Asked Questions
When does the next Associate Program start?
The next Associate Program starts in August 2011. It is a one year program, therefore it
will end in August 2012.
Is there an application deadline?
We have already started the interview process. You may apply till
the beginning of the actual program (tentative start date 16 August 2011), but the later
you apply, the lesser the chances that there will be positions remaining.
What are the eligibility criteria? (Who may apply?)
You should have either a bachelor’s degree in any engineering subject,
or a master’s degree in any science subject, including engineering,
basic/applied science or mathematics. If you do not fit within these criteria,
but believe there are exceptional circumstances that make you eligible
for our program, please send us an email at
associateprogramquestions@oneirix.com.
Is this a degree or a diploma program?
No, the Oneirix Labs Associate Program is not a degree or a diploma course. It is
not affiliated with a university. Oneirix Labs is a private limited company. The
Associate Program is therefore, an industrial apprenticeship program. You
will not get a certificate. You will get an experience letter at the end, like any
person who works for us.
How many hours in a day am I supposed to spend on the Associate Program?
“Associate Engineer” is a full-time working position at Oneirix Labs.
What subjects do you teach in the classroom training component?
The subjects that we teach each year may be different. Please look at the
syllabi of the past Associate Programs
(2006-07,
2007-08)
to get a taste of the kind of subjects we teach. Subjects are chosen based on
the following criteria:
General. Subjects of general relevance to any researcher in
engineering or science subjects. Includes mathematical subjects such as
Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations as well as basic science
subjects such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics, etc. Even though the subjects
are “general”, our lectures are much more than
“cursory overviews” of the fields. The aim is not to review,
but to go beyond the superficial rituals of each subject.
Work related. Many of our projects need us to know some specific
mathematics, physics, or engineering topic. These are covered in great detail,
and are expected to be different each year. Many of these topics are not
listed on our past syllabus listings, due to confidentiality concerns of
our customers.
Special interest. Subjects which our
team of researchers
wish to teach on that particular year, or subjects which the Associates
wish to learn.
I am an electronics engineer. Why do I need to
learn mathematics or physics?
A. To be a good electronics engineer (or a good any engineer, or scientist) you
do need to learn mathematics, physics and other engineering subjects. B. Oneirix
believes in, and performs, trans-disciplinary research, research which lies at the
boundaries of many mathematical, scientific and engineering fields. We do not believe
in classifying knowledge.
Who teaches?
Our
team of researchers
teaches in the classroom training sessions. We all share the passion of delivering
good, understandable, informative and challenging classroom lectures. Together,
we have over 2000 hours of classroom teaching experience, a large part of which
is from teaching outside Oneirix Labs.
Are there any fees involved?
No. This is not an educational program but an apprenticeship.
You do not have to pay us. “Associate Engineer” is a full-time working
position at Oneirix Labs. You will get a stipend.
Do you assign homework?
No. The practical training component of the Associate Program comes
from working on real industrial research projects at Oneirix Labs.
What projects will I get to work on?
A wide variety of research projects are running at a given time, and over
the course of the Associate Program, an Associate Engineer is expected to
work on multiple projects, giving her/him hands on training in various
disciplines such as simulation & modeling, laboratory work, circuit
development, writing software, etc. Projects will be assigned keeping in
mind the original training of the Associate Engineer, but we encourage
cross-disciplinarity in choosing projects.
How do I apply?
To apply, you need your personal information, a “statement of
purpose” and scores of any of the following exams (no score
required if you have not given the particular exam): GRE, AGRE, GATE, JEE, RMO, INMO, XII Board,
GPA during your bachelor‘s course, GPA during your master‘s
course. When you have all the information ready, apply by filling out
this form.
You will receive an email from us within a few days, in reply to which
you have to send us your resume. If you do not receive an email within a week,
check whether our email has mistakenly been marked as ‘spam’ by
your email program; if not, enquire with us about the status of your
application by sending an email to
associateprogramstatus@oneirix.com
or calling us at +91 98909 44483.
